This reminded me of People’s Park in my own home city, Davao City, but in a nicer location. Located in Quezon, Bukidnon, Overview Park offers a mesmerizing bird’s eye view (most probably something to do with why it’s named Overview) of the surrounding hills and towns of Bukidnon. All these while feeling the cold and relaxing Bukidnon breeze in your face. I see why it is a favorite hangout place of many locals as I have observed during our visit in the place. We were able to stop by at the place on our way back to Davao from a Camiguin trip. If you’re traveling from Davao to Cagayan de Oro, or vice versa, this is definitely a must stopover.
More than just a nature park
Inside the park, you’ll find several statues/sculptures of indigenous people positioned in different corners. They’re artworks by known Mindanao artist, Kublai Millan, who I found out was also the creator of the sculptures found in Davao People’s Park. The sculptures exhibit the early inhabitants of Bukidnon, most of them playing different tribal instruments. One sculpture is of a woman playing kubing, a Philippine jaw harp made of bamboo which is placed in the mouth and blowing wind through in order to produce a sound.
Truly, whether you are a native of Bukidnon or a visitor, you’ll appreciate the place as it is a great reminder of Philippines’ diverse culture.
How To Get to Overview Park
From Cagayan de Oro, take a bus bound for Davao City. And from Davao City, take a bus bound for Cagayan de Oro. Note that there are also vans or taxis for hire from these points. The park is along the highway so you can see this as you’re approaching from either point. Or you could simply tell the driver or conductor to drop you off at Overview Park in Quezon, Bukidnon.
